Advisory Board of the Karl May Foundation

The Scientific Advisory Board of the Karl May Foundation has the task of supporting the Museum Management and the Foundation Board in the pursuit of their goals and of advising them on all essential questions concerning the institutions. It makes recommendations for the scientific and professional work and further development of the museum.

2021 the Board of Directors of the Karl May Foundation has appointed the following members to the Scientific Advisory Board of the Karl May Foundation for a term of 3 years:

 

Dr. Hagen Schäfer (Chairman)
Teacher for German and history
Main focus: Literary studies and marketing

Dr. Gabriele Lorenz (vice chairwoman)
Head of the Cultural Office of the City of Radebeul, literary scholar and ethnologist
Focus: Cultural promotion

Dr. Peter Bolz
Retired Curator of the North American Collections of the Ethnological Museum, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin (Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation)
Main focus: Ethnology

Dr. Joachim Gierlichs
Expert in Islamic Art History, lecturer (e.g. Freie Universität, Berlin, Virginia Commonwealth University Qatar, Doha), curator and collection consultant Zayed National Museum Abu Dhabi
Focus: Orient/Orientalism

Martin Schultz M.A.
Co-Director “Museum Cerny”, Berne (Switzerland), Collaborator Repatriation Working Group of the “Association on American Indian Affairs
Main focus: Ethnology and Repatriations

Dr. Gunnar Sperveslage
Research associate at the Institute for African Studies and Egyptology at the University of Cologne, member of the board of the Karl May Society
Main focus: Orient/Orientalism and Karl May

Laura Thüring M.A.
Assistant at the Chair of Religious Education and Didactics at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, Member of the Board of the Karl-May-Society
